English as a Second Language classes to start online Jan. 12

January 5, 2021

The Lutheran Church of Our Savior announced online registration is open for free virtual
English as a Second Language classes with sessions beginning  Tuesday, Jan. 12, and ending Thursday, March 18. Classes will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays.

There is no charge for the virtual classes, which are being held via Zoom.

In operation since 2004, the ESL Program at the Lutheran Church of Our Savior is the largest of its kind in Sussex County. Free classes for adults at proficiency levels from beginner to advanced are offered, focusing on social interaction, vocabulary and conversation, grammar, writing and reading comprehension.

The winter semester 2021 virtual classes will be capped at six students per class. A waiting list for each class will be kept so that interested students may be notified if space becomes available.

“Our virtual classes have been a great success, and we’ve had lots of learnings along the way. Enthusiastic participation by our dedicated teachers and students has furthered our mission to help improve the lives and opportunities of Sussex County non-English speakers by offering affordable and accessible English language instruction.  We are especially grateful to our generous funders Arsht-Cannon Foundation, Longwood Foundation, Delaware Community Foundation, Sussex County government, Harry K Foundation, Hank Willoughby Scholarship Fund and SoDel Cares, which have helped enable us to continue those efforts,” said Pam Cranston, program director.

Online registration for new students is available at eslrehoboth.org. Students continuing from the fall do not need to register. For more information, contact Cranston at lcosesl@gmail.com or 302-515-4385.
